Breed rhodonite - chicken with high egg production
Chickens of the Rhodonite breed were artificially produced specially for factories as birds with high egg production. Let's see how they get along on ordinary farmsteads.
Origin of the breed
Rodonit - chickens, which were withdrawn Sverdlovsk breeders in order to increase productivity. Work on the breed began in 2006, and after 6 years a new species of birds with high egg production was introduced to the market. At the heart of the maternal line is the breed of Lorman Brown, and the fathers of the Red Rod Island were used as fathers.
One of the features that the rhodonite chicken can boast is the preservation of egg production in the winter even in an unheated room. Birds of this breed are mobile, active. They are not demanding on the conditions of detention and are suitable even for beginner poultry farmers. But do not forget that these chickens were bred for factory maintenance, so they have some special features.
Work on improving the livestock is ongoing, today there are new breed variants - rhodonite-2, rhodonite-3.
What are the external data of the rhodonite rock? Chicken differs from the cockerel immediately after birth, and the sex characteristics can be determined already in day-old chickens. Hens have a brown color, a lighter head and back, a dark area around the eyes. And males, on the other hand, have a light color and a dark head, bright areas around the eyes.
Adult birds are often confused with relatives - breeds of Broken Brown and Rhode Island. Rhodonite is a chicken that has a small head, a yellow beak with a strip, large red earrings and a scallop. Color brown, tail and wings can be a grayish shade. Feather dense, pressed against the body. The bird is light, with a thin skeleton, brisk and active. The hen weighs 2 kg, the cockerel weighs 3 kg.
There is another nice feature of the rhodonite breed: the chicken starts to carry eggs at an early age - from 4-5 months. Eggplant is about 300 eggs per year. The egg is brown or burgundy, its weight is 60 g. The peak of productivity falls on the first year and a half of the bird's life. When the hens-laying hens reach the age of two, the egg-laying begins to fall substantially. In this case, the bird can be rejuvenated with a special vaccine. This procedure will prolong the production of chickens for another year and a half.
Rhodonite - chickens, having the glory of unpretentious birds. But they are designed primarily for poultry farms, so one of the most important conditions of detention is the presence of good ventilation in the room. In the home chicken coop, this function can be performed by a window opening or a mesh hole in the wall. Skvoznyakov should not be allowed.
Ceilings in the henhouse should be at least 1.7 m high. Birds do not like too dense planting, so no need to colonize more than 20 individuals per 10 square meters.
As mentioned above, the chickens of the rhodonite breed retain their egg-laying even at low temperatures, but in the henhouse it should not be colder -2 o C. Heat of the birds is also tolerated well and feels comfortable even in the heat (up to +28 o C).
A few words about the organization of the coop. The windows should go to the south side, but the doors are best done in the east, where in winter it will sweep less snow. On the back wall there are roosts at a height of about 1 m.
Chickens are carried in boxes of boards, the bottom of which is littered with hay or straw. A family of 4-5 hens needs one box. At the paddock or in the coop itself, a container filled with sand or its mixture with ash is installed. Chickens bathe in this mixture, it helps to get rid of parasites. In addition, birds select from the sand small pebbles to improve digestion.
At a small height, a drinking bowl is installed, along the side walls - feeders for wet and dry feeds. If you equip the feeders with bows, the food will not crumble to the floor.
The needs of the chicken rodonite in the diet do not differ from the needs of other layers. In addition to combined feed, birds need vegetables, fresh herbs, grains, and also in calcium. In the diet of chickens should be minerals and additives that help birds make up for a lack of calcium. Daily laying hens should use chopped chalk, shell rock, shell, ground limestone. To improve digestion, chickens should be given small gravel or sand with small stones.
To fans-poultry farmers from different factories gets rhodonite. The hen of this breed is a good hen, but not the best hen. In addition, when crossing the rooster and chicken, the chicks do not inherit all the pedigree signs of the parents. The fact is that rhodonite is a cross breed, that is, a hybrid. And such a hybrid is not obtained as a result of simple crossbreeding. Zootechnicians are working on breeding offspring, strictly following certain rules. Double crossing or blood transfusion may be used.
The effect of hybridization is especially pronounced in the first generation of birds, and subsequently fades. This is the reason that the reproduction of chicken breeds of rhodonite at home does not make sense. Breeding is possible only in industrial conditions.
Term of life of hybrids of egg breeds is not long, they are designed for high productivity at the beginning of life, and after the results are reduced, they are allowed for meat. In the same way you need to act at home, constantly updating the livestock. To buy chickens or eggs in an incubator is necessary at the factory, ignoring private announcements, since thoroughbred chickens can not be grown on an ordinary farmstead.
