Attic toy: history, photo
Surely many people have the phrase "attic toy" provoking very dubious associations. Most likely, in the imagination there will be a doll or a little animal of dubious appearance, worn by life and time, completely smelling of mold and mothball. However, in reality everything is somewhat different ...
The attic toy has its own, very fascinating, history of origin (perhaps coined). One woman made for her daughter a doll from old and unnecessary rags. This toy for a long time lay in the attic of the coffee factory, where the little mistress left her, waiting for her mother from work.
Of course, for all the time that the doll spent in the attic, she managed not only to get covered with a decent layer of dust, but also to grow old, and also absorb all the best smells that were at the coffee factory. Cinnamon, vanilla and, of course, coffee - these fragrances, impregnated with time and amazing stories, give the toy itself a special charm.
When making such dolls, the effect of antiquity is an integral component that makes attic toys the most loved, warm and touching. They smell of childhood, coziness, holiday and all that brings only pleasant emotions.
Features of creation
Attic toys have their own manufacturing features. For this, soft and "cozy" materials of natural origin are used. The coloring of the fabric plays an important role: it must be as natural, muffled and homely as possible. As a rule, figurines of animals or dolls have asymmetric dimensions of the head and trunk, without hair or with a minimum of their number.
As additional accessories, the leading position is occupied by buttons, often very large and unusual. By the way, these attributes quite effectively complement the image of the doll. An attic toy, the story of which goes back to the time of the first American settlers, when the aborigines used any improvised materials to create dolls, is the quintessence of manual creativity and warmth. She wants to hold in her hands and inhale this unique aroma of coffee beans, which is so successfully combined with the barely perceptible notes of vanilla and cinnamon.
How to make an attic cat?
Make a toy that reminds of childhood and gave the warmest associations, you can with the help of improvised materials. So, for example, an attic toy "Cat" can be an excellent gift for family and friends.
In order to make such a souvenir, you will need the following:
- ground coffee (can be instant, but it will not give such a rich aroma);
- vanilla and cinnamon;
- red tea and cocoa powder;
- pieces of fabric made of natural materials;
- a filler (it can be a usual synthetic winterizer);
- thread, needle, brush, sewing machine.
First of all, it is necessary to prepare the details. You can draw them by hand. Great skill here is not necessary and art education, too. Moreover, it will be much better if the cat turns out to be asymmetrical and funny.
Next, you need to prepare a mixture for artificial "aging": mix 2 tsp. coffee and cinnamon with a bag of vanillin. Pour boiling water and put on a slow fire, wait for the mixture to boil and remove from heat, then strain through gauze. Brewed coffee should be thoroughly dyed fabric and allow it to dry. It is necessary to put two layers. The resulting patterns should be ironed and sewed together. Fill with sintepon, embroider eyes, mustache and mouth. For efficiency you can sew a bow or bright buttons.
Some mistakenly believe that an attic toy is a derivative version of Tilda's dolls. However, they have significant differences:
- firstly, to create attic toys there are no specific patterns, that is, the author, at his own discretion, can create bears, hares, cats, ducks and other fancy characters;
- secondly, only natural materials are used (cotton and linen are the most common type of fabric used to create these cute toys);
- thirdly, in order to make a pretty face or attractive face, you can use acrylic paints, threads or small pieces of fabric;
- fourthly, the attic toy should be dressed in simple, "home" clothes, because it should cause a feeling of coziness and comfort.
Cute little animals and dolls will be a great gift, home decoration and favorite toy of kids.
Doll creation workshop
Everything begins with the patterns: they must be as primitive as possible. One nuance - the legs and hands should be slightly longer than usual, so that later you can identify the elbow and knee folds. After that it is necessary to determine the material from which the attic toy will be made. The photo clearly demonstrates that the most impressive piece is made of white calico or cotton.
Cutting out the details, connecting them together, you need to sew parts and fill it with sintepon. Stuff should be as tight as possible, except for the hands and feet. Then you can proceed to stitching the details and creating a pupa.
After that, you can start painting the toy. The solution is easy to prepare (coffee, cinnamon and vanilla are at each mistress). For a better drying of the doll and saturation with its fragrances, you can use an oven or batteries. Some people prefer to leave the workpiece in a suspended state for the whole night.
Decorating attic doll
Of course, no doll can not do without a dress, for its tailoring it is better, again, to use natural materials. Pantalonchiki, a dress, a shirt with a belt - wardrobe variants can be a huge amount, but one should remember the simplicity and primitiveness. By the way, the dress can also be artificially "aged", dipping it for several minutes in a coffee solution.
It is desirable to paint a face with acrylic paints. Shoes or shoes are also good from paints, but you can tie elegant slippers and crochet. And, at last, the most important thing - a hairdress. Woolen threads, yarn - all this is perfect for creating golden or curly ringlets. By the way, there is one simple way to create spiral hairs: soak ordinary threads in a soapy solution, wrap the skewer and leave to dry out on the battery.
Attic toys - this is a real decoration for the house, which will help to create an even more cozy atmosphere and give you warm memories.
