A math course in the middle group: what parents should know
Each parent has his own child and is smart, and handsome. And when the educator recommends conducting some or other exercises at home to consolidate knowledge, there is discontent among moms and dads who believe that maths in the middle group should be taught only by teachers in kindergarten. However, when learning together, children will quickly understand the new material.
What should a child know in his 4 years?
Each group works according to its program, which indicates the knowledge and skills that will be formed in children by the end of the school year. Parents are required to study this material, rewrite and, if necessary, purchase this program to conduct practical lessons in mathematics at home.
According to psychological research, children in the age of 4-5 years should have the following mathematical knowledge.
- Understand the meaning of the terms "one-many", "more-less-even", "above-below-right-left-closer-further-between-for-before-after-near-next."
- Be able to count to five and back. Know the score before ten.
- Learn to relate the number to the number of objects and the number with the number, solve the simplest logical problems, use the signs: "=", "+", "-".
- To be able to reduce, equalize and increase the objects among themselves.
- Distinguish 5 geometric shapes: circle, rectangle, square, oval, triangle.
- Be able to compare objects in height, width, length.
In some DOW these requirements are higher, in others - lower. It all depends on the educational program and the relationship with the school, which children then enter after the kindergarten. Also, children should freely solve examples for addition and subtraction by "1" using visual material.
What should be the occupation of mathematics in the middle group?
Any mathematical activity should correspond to age requirements and contain elements of novelty and game. Despite the fact that children receive notebooks, cards for work, they get tired of doing the same things: count items, call them and draw lines from them to a similar figure.
Therefore, the math class in the middle group should be interesting and contain intrigue. For example, a fairy-tale hero came who can not go home on his own, and the children help him to cope with difficulties. Lessons with fairy-tale heroes allow solving the task by the whole group, in part or giving individual assignments.
Usually there are 3 tasks for one lesson: two for fixing the material and one for obtaining new information. For example, an account of up to five, geometric figures and days of the week. The tasks need to be thought through so much that the teacher can see the level of knowledge of each child. If you ask questions of a mathematical nature periodically during the day, then it will not be difficult to determine the level of children.
How to prepare a teacher for math?
Group classes in mathematics will be interesting if you prepare for them in advance:
- prepare didactic, demonstration and handouts;
- stock up on the literary base, where there are numbers, logical puzzles;
- find exercises to warm up on a given topic;
- find a fairy tale with a mathematical bias;
- combine knowledge in mathematics with creativity: drawing, applique, modeling.
If the teacher has perfect literary material, even classes with workbooks can pass unnoticed for children, because at the first signs of fatigue preschool children do warm-up exercises, enrich the vocabulary, repeating the poem's teacher.
If there are competitions between groups between writing problems, then the children also easily remember the material. For example, in the first group pupils should take one red circle from the basket, and in the second group each child should have three green triangles in their hands. Or each child has his own number, and he must stand under his ordinal number.
It is easier to conduct classes if you are prepared with abstracts for the entire learning process with this group of children. Then, with the next stream of kids, the lessons are only adjusted.
Mathematics is everywhere: tasks for parents
Not all parents understand how to do homework with children at home. That's why mothers should know in advance about the content of the program, which is being taught. In addition, in each group at the parents' booth, important information on the development of children in each class is posted.
It is important for parents to know the basic requirements, and problems can be seen in the surrounding world. For example, walking with a child on the playground, fix the order and the return account to 5-10 in the house with the bills. You can take the steps on the ladder, cats, frogs, ducks, kiddies ...
Geometric figures can be repeated using sand forms, drawing chalks or helping in the kitchen. Even to divide the fruit between sisters and brothers equally or bring two bulbs and four carrots to my mother - this is also a kind of math exercise (in the middle group such tasks are for children to do).

If parents can find mathematical tasks for addition and subtraction themselves, then it is more difficult to find the literature material. One is laziness, others lack knowledge, so educators should hang out didactic cards with poetry and riddles in mathematics in the group.

Lesson in mathematics in the middle group and at home, with interesting poems, tasks, counters will be remembered by children more quickly. If you bring elements of theatrical, finger games and fairy tales, the child will be able to understand even the complex material. The main thing is to make sure that the preschool child does not memorize the material, but understands it, then at school he will not have problems with mathematics.
