Danio - reproduction of fish in the aquarium
The hobby for aquaristics in our country has a long history. If you recall Zolotnitsky, whose books were studied by the native nature of millions of native biologists, the popularity of this hobby becomes clear. Nothing so relaxes and does not adjust to a calm mood, as contemplation of pets, which slowly float in crystal clear water, "hovering" between amazingly beautiful plants.
Among the beginners, various types of zebrafish are especially popular, the reproduction of which is quickly mastered even by the most inexperienced breeders. These fish are not too afraid of low temperatures, almost omnivorous, and also have a fairly pronounced sexual dimorphism. This ensures the simplicity of their content and breeding. However, we will dwell on the issue of obtaining offspring a little more.
Why do we describe this species in the article? Yes, the simple fact is that with the word "zebrafish" at least 99 percent of aquarists imagine these very fast-moving fish, which are immediately evident due to their coloring.
Features of reproduction
To be frank, there are no special difficulties with this process even for beginners, who first started zebrafish. Reproduction can be complicated only by the fact that these fish spawn, and do not live births like guppies or swordbirds. However, not everything is so terrible.
First, before breeding, individuals should be divided into male and female groups, which must be transferred to separate aquariums. How to distinguish females from males? It's simple: the female has a much more rounded abdomen, and the color of the bands on their body stands out more clearly. During this period the selected fish are fully and qualitatively fed.
Masters of aquariums say that at this time in the diet of fish should enter mainly the coretra. It contains almost all the necessary nutrients, but there are no fats in it.
This is extremely important, because the producers should not lose their shape before spawning. However, all aquarium fish zebrafish, the reproduction of which is considered here, lost shape, the ability to spawn almost always.
Choosing a spawning ground
Since the size of the fish is small, it is not worth choosing a large "trough" for spawning for them. Quite a modest aquarium liters for ten. Since these fish originate from small and rather small ponds, its depth can be no more than 20 cm.
The bottom in no case can not be covered with hard ground, which can be injured by zebrafish! Reproduction should assume the most convenient and safe conditions. Optimal to lay on the bottom of the pinnacle. However, in the absence of alternatives, the usual Canadian Elodea can also come up.
To prevent the plants from popping up and unmasking the spawned eggs, they should be pressed down a little by small pebbles. Of course, previously they should be boiled or calcined, so as not to bring into the aquarium any infection. Experts say that for this purpose it is best to use glass sticks, which are much easier to disinfect. In general, the breeding of zebrafish in an aquarium assumes maximum purity.
If you have set the goal to protect eggs as much as possible not only from diseases, but also from the manufacturers themselves, it is best to buy a special mesh. Typically, these materials are painted green, and the size of the cells is such that adult fish can not squeeze through them. Above the plants or the net there must be a minimum of five centimeters of water.
As in all such cases, the most stringent requirements are imposed on water. Like many Asian species originating from regions with a large number of fish, zebrafish for spawning need fresh and unstable water. Before pouring into the aquarium, it is necessary to sustain it for a couple of days. If chlorine is added regularly to your water supply, the aging time should be increased.
Note that the water should be harvested with a margin. After spawning it is still useful.
Heating the water to about 24-26 degrees Celsius, run the zebrafish. Reproduction begins with the fact that in the evening in the aquarium populate a selected group of producers.
As a rule, for breeding, it is required to select a group of two or three active males and one female. Carefully inspect the abdomen of the latter: in the anal fin area it should be pronounced thickened. In addition, be sure to choose the place on which you will put spawning aquarium: in the morning, the first rays of the sun should fall on it.
By the way, this is the difficulty for many aquarium lovers. Virtually all species of zebrafish, the reproduction of which occurs at dawn. The female swims within 400 eggs, although young individuals rarely leave more than 50 eggs.
If spawning did not occur immediately
If the spawning was not there at once, do not despair. Producers can be kept in the spawning tank for another day. They should be fed with a small amount of small and well washed joker, in every possible way avoiding water pollution. In the case when nothing happened the next morning, the fish again need to be divided by sex, having survived in individual aquariums for about three to four days.
Important! All danios are fish, the reproduction of which is an obligatory biological mechanism. Simply speaking, if within a week after the first attempt at spawning, you do not again set the female off for spawning, in 70% of cases it loses its ability to reproduce.
What to do after spawning?
First of all, you need to catch the parents' fish from the aquarium as accurately as possible, using a wide net for this. It is better not to do sharp movements. After that, very carefully, we drain approximately half of the water that is in the aquarium. To do this, you need to use a wide siphon, on the bell of which it is better to put on the gauze filter.
After that, we fill in the same water that was prepared by us in the form of a stock (see above). Pour it slowly and carefully, as the composition of the liquid in any case will be different. If you pour in all at once, some of the eggs (if not all at once) may die.
About three or four days later, larvae appear. At first, they are fed with infusoria, as they grow into more serious food. Growing young quickly, special problems with it does not arise.
We raise pink zebrafish
And what about other aquarium fish? Danio pink, the reproduction of which differs little from the process described above, still require more attention.
To begin with, the ratio of females and males in spawning is 1: 2 or 1: 1 (rarely). Male individuals in this species are much more active, and therefore a large number of them can lead to the death of a female, which active producers simply drive.
The second difference is water. While zebrafish can spawn in almost all conditions, their pink cousins prefer 10 ° dH (constant stiffness), and pH = 7. In most regions of our country water hardness is much higher, and therefore it will have to be diluted or boiled, or distilled.
Like many aquarium fish, the pink danios (whose breeding we are discussing) prefer a high fever during spawning. In this case, it should be approximately 26-28 degrees Celsius.
Are there any other differences? No, all other manipulations are absolutely identical
By the way, is it possible to breed zebrafish in a common aquarium? Yes, and this happens constantly, especially for inexperienced beginners. But it's unlikely that you will ever know about the spawning fact of spawning, as the eggs are eagerly eaten not only by the happy parents themselves, but by other inhabitants of the aquarium. Even if some of the eggs are incredibly lucky to develop to the larva, it will still be eaten.
