Tourist rug will create comfortable conditions in the hike
Tourists are a hardened people. But they also want to create comfortable conditions for recreation. A full night rest is a guarantee of good health the next day, and spend a night on the ground, even in the summer, and not everyone can get up to full strength and health. Therefore, in the hiking equipment necessarily includes a tourist rug. Sometimes not even one.
Tourist rug performs a double task: serves to improve thermal insulation and increases the level of comfort when spending the night in nature. There are various types of these devices: from the simplest to the most advanced and "heaped up."
The most budgetary version of the tourist rug is "foam". This is a piece of foamed two-layer polyethylene (foam polyethylene), which has a bright color and light weight. The thickness of these rugs can be from 8 millimeters to several centimeters. Some of them have on one side a foil layer, which serves as an additional barrier to cold and moisture. Such an "additive" does not reflect too much on the price, but sometimes it plays a significant role. The advantages of "foam" include small weight (250-400g), low price, good heat and moisture-insulating properties. Disadvantages of such rugs: they are easily damaged and eventually lose elasticity, "crammed". Also, "foam" can not completely smooth out any unevenness of the soil. And in order to be able to rest, it is necessary to clear the pad of foreign objects (twigs, pebbles and hummocks) or to lay two mats, one on top of the other.
The tourist folding rug consists of several plates of foamed polypropylene, sheathed and connected with each other by means of various types of fabrics. For the production of the upper part of the skin, natural fabrics are used (most often cotton), for the bottom - a synthetic water-repellent material. Positive moments: pleasant to the touch the top layer, light weight (slightly heavier than "foam"), compact size. Disadvantages: does not smooth out the unevenness of the soil, crumples on the folds, can get wet, if a low-quality material is used for the lower skin, it eventually loses its elasticity and "cracks". Such a tourist rug will be convenient for a picnic or relaxing on the beach. Forhike, designed for several days, it is advisable to choose something different.
For those who value convenience and comfort even in the field, a self-inflating tourist rug is suitable. It is a combination of the usual "foam" with an inflatable mattress. Self-inflating mats are produced by various companies, using different filler materials and plating. There are models for routes of varying complexity, different weather conditions.
When choosing such a rug, pay attention to the reliability of the valves. They are often their "weak spot". The advantages include high comfort and low weight. Disadvantage: a fairly high price (from $ 40) and dependence on the operation of the valves.
The choice is great enough and depends only on your preferences and desires.
