Mosquito net for plastic windows: installation
With the onset of the warm season, all kinds of midges begin to become active on the street. Insects annoy us literally everywhere. Uninvited guests do not leave us alone even when we find ourselves in our own homes, which they get through windows and doors. Of course, to date, invented a lot of different repellents and other means of protection, but often they do not cope with the functions assigned to them. In such cases, the installation of a mosquito net will help to protect your home from insects. How to do this, you will learn from this article.
A few decades ago, as a protection against mosquitoes on the windows hung gauze or a multi-colored plastic mesh. But today, modern products with no shortcomings are on sale.
Most mosquito nets on windows are made of fiberglass, which is a glass fiber, the surface of which is covered with plastic. Products made from this material are characterized by increased strength and durability. They do not smell, they perfectly pass the air and do not melt in the sun. The 1.5-meter cells prevent the penetration of dust and midges.
The cloth of the mosquito net is stretched over an aluminum profile frame, the surface of which is anodized or coated with a special polymer composition.
Existing varieties of products
Such an elementary thing, like a mosquito net, is produced in several variants, since it can perform various functions. With this in mind, they can be divided into:
- "Antikoshki", having a PVC coating. These products are strong enough to withstand the onslaught of cat claws or bird beaks.
- Mesh anti-dust with very small cells, through which the house does not penetrate pollen and plant seeds. They are recommended for people suffering from seasonal allergies.
- Standard models that protect the house against the arrival of midges and mosquitoes.
Depending on the method of fixation, the mesh is classified into:
- Door products that are large in size. In such models, there are additional stiffeners providing increased strength.
- Sliding constructions, the movement of which is carried out on one rail with window sashes.
- Frame models, mounted on the window with the help of Z-fasteners.
In addition, there is also a roll or roller shutter option. This mosquito net is rolled into a roll or closed box. If necessary, you can unleash it and fix it on the window.
The main advantages of such structures
Like any other product, a mosquito net for plastic windows has a number of undeniable advantages. One of the main advantages is a democratic price, thanks to which it became available to any average consumer. This design allows you to protect your home from insects, street dust and even from falling from the upper floors of cigarette butts.
It is also important that the presence of such a product does not spoil the overall appearance of the plastic window. Modern manufacturers produce models in various color variations.
How to install a mosquito net on plastic fasteners?
It should be noted: this process is so simple that you can deal with it yourself without the help of specialists. To carry out the installation you will need four pre-fastened fasteners (two on the bottom and top). It is necessary to make sure that the bottom edge of the grid falls one and a half centimeters below the opening. The top fastener should be located at a height of one centimeter from the top edge of the product. The mosquito net is simply installed in the grooves and falls down. Despite the seeming ease of this method, it still involves applying certain efforts.
Mounting with Velcro
The structures installed in this way are characterized by an increased level of durability. They perfectly tolerate high humidity, temperature changes and direct sunlight. In the process of dismantling, they simply add up and retract for storage. Such products can not only be washed by hand using soap and sponge, but also washed in a typewriter.
Before starting the installation, the place where the mosquito net will be located must be carefully cleaned of accumulated dust and dirt. Then, on the perimeter of the window, you need to stick a strip of special adhesive tape, to which the product will be attached. The surface of the Velcro is covered with a number of hooks, clinging to the grid and providing a reliable and tightest connection.
Installation with magnets
It should be noted immediately that such a method will cost a little more than the previous one. But the relatively high cost is justified by the greater reliability of the design. As in the cases described above, you can do it yourself. First, you need to cut the tape that holds the two doors together and insert the magnets into the special pockets. The wider side should be directed into the opening. Small magnets are located below, large ones are at the top.
To secure the fixation of the net, nails and tapes are provided. To attach it to a metal or plastic door leaf, you can use a double-sided tape. In this case, it is important to ensure that at least two millimeters remain between the floor and the bottom edge of the product. To hide all the fasteners and give the finished construction a complete and aesthetic appearance, it is recommended to use special decorative pads.
The simplicity of installation and maintenance can be regarded as the main advantages of this method. The grid on magnets is made of dirt-repellent materials, so it retains its original appearance for a long time. In addition, it can be washed without problems in the typewriter. In addition to the tapes, there are two additional magnets attached in the lower part of the opening.
